College Scholarship Opportunities

There are a lot of great scholarships available for military families.  If you are a dependent looking for help paying for college, feel free to stop by and look through scholarship resources at Airman &Family Readiness.  Here are several organizations currently accepting applications:

McConnell Officers’ Spouses Club: Earn up to$1500.  Open to military dependent children and spouses and dependent children of federal civilian employees at McConnell.  Applications available online at www.mcconnellosc.org  Application packages must be postmarked by March 24, 2012.

Air Force Officers’ Wives Club: Multiple scholarships in the amount of $4,000.  Additional scholarships for students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math.  Open to dependent high school seniors or college students and Air Force Spouses. Applications are available online at www.afowc.com/scholarships  Application packages must be postmarked by March 1, 2012. 

Air Force Sergeants Association: Multiple scholarships available ranging from $500 to $3,000.  Open to dependent children of enlisted members of Air Force Active Duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Command in active duty, retired or veteran status. Applications are available online at www.hqafsa.org  Application packages must be received by March 31, 2012.

Starting Your Child in School Workshops: February23, 11am-12:30pm or 6:30-8:00pm, Bldg 338 (Playgroup Center).  Childcare will be provided during the evening session only.  Please call Airman& Family Readiness at 759-6020 to register.
Parents with children eligible to start Pre-K or Kindergarten this fall are encouraged to attend to learn about the procedures for school registration, typical school expectations and more.

 Fluor Corp Sends MCEC Youth to Space Camp
With its generous gift of $25,000, Fluor Corporation will enable 15 MCEC military-connected students to attend Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.  NPR Seeking Young Musicians
The hit NPR radio program showcasing America’s best young classical musicians, is seeking young musicians with military parents who are Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves or post 9-11 Veterans for its live show recording on June 27, 2012, at The Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas. The show will be presented by the Military Child Education Coalition at its National Conference.
